On October 29, 2009, the students at Walker Mill Middle School participated in Walker Mill Serves. Walker Mill Serves was part of our Quarterly Thematic Unit that provided the students with an opportunity to build community within our school. Our first quarter activity was a lesson on the RED CROSS and how they as students could be of service to their community and each other. Research shows that students who participate in community service are more likely to attend college and continue to serve as adults.
The students planned a clothing and food drive that is ongoing until Thanksgiving Break. They also wrote plays, created posters, engaged in Socratic seminars and developed a plan on how to distribute necessities to victims of disaster in any and all environments.
Our students and staff are looking forward to our Second Quarter Thematic Unit.
